Braid

Posted on:April 14 2009

Last weekend I tried out Braid, an unusual platform puzzle game created by an indy developer. First, it seems like a Super Mario Bros clone with a nice art style (and I thought: "why on earth are all people saying this game is sooo great!? It's a ****ing jump'n'run!?"), but after the first few levels, or when you died the first time, you'll notice that Braid is very different: It's all about time manipulation and solving brain hurting puzzles which is very entertaining. Also, the music in the game is absolutely nice.

You can download the braid demo for example from Greenhouse.

I got it too. I go back and forth between hating the game and loving it, depending on whether or not i'm tired. ;)

When I read this post, I was holding out for the "...and the best part is: the game uses Irrlicht for graphics/IrrKlang for sound/IrrThis for that :)" line. Now I am disappointed! ;(

Why don't you start bringing fun 'free' games to our attention?

This is a little off topic maybe, maybe not. I have been using hand drawn, from paper to digital art in my work more lately. It has been going extremely well. There is something about the feel of drawing on paper. The tool you use to create your media has a large effect on creativity I think. I think doing something by hand just makes a difference.

I've got the game on Xbox 360 it is fun and "artistic", the puzzles are nice and the games' simple style gets addictive after a while. At the moment I'm playing Outrun classic revived - memory lane from over 15 years ago I think.
