Mac OS Maintainer Wanted

Posted on:December 07 2007

We, the Irrlicht team, are currently looking for a maintainer of the Mac OS port of Irrlicht because we don't have the time to do it ourselves. If you are experienced developing C++ on MacOS and want to join our team to help, just send us a mail. Here is what you should do first:
  • Get the latest irrlicht release, version 1.4, from svn (branch 1.4), make it compile and run on MacOSX (prefered both on intel and powerpc), and bundle it as SDK. This should not be that difficult, only some few changes here and there should be necessary.
  • Send me the result (download link) so I can test and review it. If everything is fine and the rest of the team is ok with you, you'll get access to all servers (you can check in your modifications into the svn then) and are free to help us developing one of the most popular open source 3D engines.
Note: We usually get several applications, so if you did all this, we still cannot guarantee that you will become a irrlicht development team member then. But we hope you will :)
That's it :)

Hello Irrlicht Team

I do 90% of my development on OSX and have been maintaining ports for OSX, Linux, Win and PSP for our own projects. I always stay current with the latest SVN version as I have stuff to contribute back to the irrlicht community, once the reach maturity.. eg: CIrrDevicePSP.

-- changes --

Not much see below:

examples/Demo/CMainMenu.cpp: device = createDevice( outDriver, //Varmint: 2007/12/11 video::EDT_BURNINGSVIDEO,
COpenGLDriver.cpp://Varmint: 2007/12/11
COpenGLMaterialRenderer.h://Varmint: 2007/12/11

Also added
libpng/pnggccrd_osx.c

XCode project file has been updated and added _dbg to the Application names when compiling in Debug mode.
They also install into irrlicht/bin/MacOSX.

Everything works in Debug except for Render to texture demo, which seems to have a scaling issue on OSX. And a couple Release examples (Demo, MeshViewer, PerPixelLighting, TerrainRender, UserInterface), but all work fine as a Debug build. I haven't looked into it very far yet, but I did find were RenderToTexture was crashing. I do plan to fix it as it's a feature we plan to use at some point. Of course as a maintainer of Irrlicht for OSX I would make such thinks a priority. ;)

Download Link:
http://shadow.krabbit.com/varmint/irrlicht_1.4.dmg

To open double click the dmg file once downloaded and drag irrlicht to your Desktop or were ever you do your code development and compile away. It's being tested on PPC and Intel, on 10.3 and 10.4.

Thanks
V

Wow really cool Varmint! I can't test it myself because I don't have a mac, but I'm really excited anyway!

The other feature it would be nice to get working on the Mac is the render to texture feature. I have it working on the latest SVN, so maybe varmint would like to merge it into his...
