Irrlicht Beginners Manual

Posted on:October 23 2007

Dejai just started to write an Irrlicht Beginners Manual in the Irrlicht Engine wiki, a compendium which would include all the information from getting started with the engine, assuming it is a persons first API. Some people already started to help out, and I think this is a very good idea. If you think so too, it would be cool if you would help out (related irrlicht forum thread).

Wow this is really cool. :) I can wait to see how the full manual turns out. Nice work Dejai.

The manual for beginners is a fantastica idea. It would be a good idea that also was made in other languages to attract new users who begin to program in Irrlicht and it supposes a difficulty to them to read a english manual.

The problem with that is that the other languages would probably always be outdated and coders will have to learn english anyway. I don't think it's a good idea to translate it.

Two options never are worse than one. If the translation of the manual is outdated with respect english manual, begginers can consult the english manual. But if they only has a english manual then they will choose other engine3d who has a documentation in their language.

We are speaking about a begginers manual not about a manual for avanced users. It is more easy for them if they can learn the basics of the irrlicht in their native language.

This is a great idea. I looked over the chapter headings but I missed a chapter dealing with shaders. Maybe this is hidden in lighting and shadows?

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback, taking it one step at a time, now if you look at the bottom of the index 3 chapters are left available Chapter 7 should contain that information, edit it if you wish. Chapter 8 and 9 are undecided and I hope some people to pitch their ideas for that section. Chapter 10 is a summary of the skills learned.

Chapter 11 Will me a IrrKlang Extra Chapter and Chapter 12 a Newton Physics Extra article.

As for .Net translations and non English translations that can all be worked out after the manual has been finished. When it is complete, or version 1 at least I will make a PDF and host it around the place, the PDF will contain all the information needed to be known, feel free to edit this or adapt it for other languages and .NET etc

(Note it is always possible to set up another manual for the .NET Lanauge though lets take things one step at a time and get the C++ manual finished first)
