My typing speed

Posted on:July 12 2006

Uh, I think I am not a fast typist, if you consider that I'm a programmer. My typing speed is 84.13 words per minute, 355 characters per minute. What's your's?
But ok, in that test nobody wanted me to type stuff like "foo = new pTz*[sd->(x|y)];", maybe I'm more trainined to write things like that. And, the test wasn't german of course. Don't know if this makes a difference.
Update: On the other hand, "the average workplace typist reaches about 50 to 60 words per minute. The average web surfer comes in at around 30 words per minute (source)."

97 WPM, 408 CPM. Ah, that makes me remember my typing lessons at school, where we had to achieve 1500 characters within 10 minutes, and in the end of the year, I had 2000 characters per 10 minutes. Believe me, it's really hard to keep up that great typing speed for such a long time...

2 mistakes / 102.78WPM / 453.1CPM, and much better with the second try. Niko, I'm pretty sure it makes a difference whether you do such a test in your native language or not. Would be funny to see how the English speaking people around here would perform with a German text... "Argh! ÄÖÜß! German Umlauts!" ;-)

My highest so far is 103 on that test but I have taken others that put me more in the 73-78 wpm range. It really depends on the complexity of the sentence you are typing and whether you are familiar with it or not.

well not so much familiar with it as how long you're typing for. this is more of a burst speed test, usually tests measure you sustained for a minute, two minutes, so on and so forth.

108.29 wpm / 454.29 cpm (0 mistakes)

...but a German text would have been much easier and gained better results for me.

Somewhere around 60 WPM. Not really proud of it, but since I can't event think that fast, it doesn't hurt my programming. ;*)

I ended up taking the test a couple of times, because the text provided doesn't have the proper amount of spacing between sentences. In English, you see, there are supposed to be two spaces after a period at the end of a sentence. I kept typing two, but there are only one, and it'd flag it as an error. Stoopid habits!

Anywho, I type too much, still. On a lengthier amount of text, I tend to average closr to 120-130 with a mistake or two tossed in.

@unarekin, there are several standards of writing that require two spaces after a period but it is not a rule of all english sentances.

@TSM:
No rules in English apply unilaterally. That's what makes it stu--er, English. ;)

After getting over the program forcing one space after each period instead of two, I netted 111.82 wpm, 480 cpm, no errors. I used to average almost 130 wpm with no errors ... must be getting old :)

Thanks for finding this program, I forwarded it to several friends!

now i know why i never use words such as 'unbelievable'... they take much longer to type than the average 4 letter word and tend to contain mistakes...

74.65wpm - some mistakes! I think I type a LOT faster when I am typing something from my head, rather they via my eyes ... I get into a mantra when my fingers fly over the keyboard, and I am sure I hit 120wpm when in that zone. But something unfamiliar that I don't really know well ... plummets to 70wpm. Sigh.

50 - 59wpm 2 mistakes each... lol, that sucks but im only 14, so I guess its not that bad. But, if it's from the head I can probably get like, I dont know 85wpm.
