Oh those poor, poor, spammers

Posted on:March 14 2014

I just received a mail from a company, asking me to remove a few comments from this blog, linking their website. Because they say it affects their google rank negatively.
I am usually not censoring this blog, but being surprised to see such a request, I was curious to see what comment it was, and why they don't like it. Turns out the comments they are talking about are blog spam comments with links to their website. Which somehow made it through my spam filter.

BAHAHAHA!

So, summarized: They spammed my blog. Now google has introduced a kind of penalty, punishing this behavior. Now they are asking me to clean up their own spam comments. I think this time, I am happy to leave the spam on this blog.

I'd go easy on them, often this kind of tactic comes from an agency working on the behalf of the company. When Google cracks down on it, they ask their agency questions and find out about the blackhat work. I've been through this myself and it's a nightmare, as naturally I didn't want to pay the agency to clean up their own mess, and they weren't going to do it for free.

Did they say 'please' at least? Or did they demand it?

Understandable, but you are still responsible and accountable for the actions done by people you pay. And those are now the consequences they deserve, IMO.
Erik: The mail was friendly, but not friendly enough. :)

Since they request you to work for them, I suggest you expect them to pay you for it...

Can they actually prove that they are in a legal position to request the deletion of these comments, i.e. can they prove they were originally responsible for that comment? After all, anyone could send you some email and request the deletion of a comment that may be unconfortable to them.

But Panda update was release for a very long time now. They should have known to stop spamming.
