Ridiculous

WTF, sending a .zip file with a couple of .dll files (such as irrKlang.dll) to a gmail adress won't work. GMail will reject that mail. It will also reject .lib files. Ah, and these as well:

"ade", "adp", "bat", "chm", "cmd", "com", "cpl", "dll", "exe", "hta", "ins", "isp", "jse", "lib", "mde", "msc", "msp", "mst", "pif", "scr", "sct", "shb", "sys", "vb", "vbe", "vbs", "vxd", "wsc", "wsf", "wsh".

Ridiculous.

Comments:

Ridiculous is the amount of malware spread via email using such files. While this limitation is unfortunate, it is for the greater good.

Rename the zip file to have another extension. Then Gmail won't scan it.

Yeah I've added ".removeme" to work around it :-D.

Or use something like 7z (or do they get scanned too?)

Use a password on the file. But then, google might scan the mail for passwords as well ;)
Or password protected zip-files are rejected as well...
Let's keep your original interpretation: Ridiculous.

@tonic: if this was a filter for malware then why is 'pdf' not blocked ?

@Sylence I also find it strange that .jar, .py and .msi are not blocked

@Telepath Generally with a password protected zip file you can still see the file list, the password is only required to actually open the files

Password-protected zips don't work; Gmail can still scan the file list. I tested it.

I have been bitten by this many times. My clients complains several times because of this. I end up using yousendit.com to send such files (exe or dll). Using 7zip may work as it is not a very common archive type.
