It makes good arguments towards the benefits of using WebGL - unfortunately they hardly matter that much. There are reasons why WebGL will *not* be the "go-to" 3D solution for the web in the foreseeable future: - Microsoft will not support it. Now whatever their real reasons might be, they state security as being their biggest concern - and rightly so. Delegating a whole bunch of security responsibilities to the graphics driver (of all things) will be a problem. (which is not to say that other solutions do not suffer from that problem too) - Flash provides basically the same features and is supported on pretty much all browsers. Let's face it: Most web users have flash running right now with Stage3D capabilities and they are a much larger market. WebGL provides no real benefit over Stage3D for the majority of developers either. The idea that Adobe is burying flash is a misunderstanding: They are burying the mobile flash plugin, which has simply always sucked and they can not get it right, performance wise or conceptually. But the mobile platforms don't need browser plugins or even HTML5 (which arguably runs as bad or worse on mobile when reproducing flash-like content) for good user experience: They have apps. Flash to App publishing is still part of Adobe's strategy. Compared to installed base and market size, issues like performance or "open standards" are not very important. I would *like* for WebGL to be the future - I would still bet my money on Flash. It's really not the developers who decide this, it is the market.[/quote]
